Pulse Out, Party In New York

October 31, 2009: Monday brings a Party in New York, as JVC Media takes over WNYZ-LP and expands the Rhythmic programming from WPTY-FM in Long Island into the city with the new "Party 87.7." WNYZ is a low-power TV station whose audio airs at 87.7 FM, and it's the former home of Mega Media's Dance-formatted Pulse 87.7.
"We are very excited to be broadcasting to the number one market in the world," JVC President/CEO John Caracciolo said.
JVC said it will be launching an extensive marketing campaign in New York City for the new Party, and will be making announcements over the few weeks about live broadcasts, appearances, and concerts.
Pulse 87.7 went off the air Friday afternoon after months of financial problems that led at one point to a (quickly rescinded) fundraising appeal to listeners, Mega Media's Dance The station, which operates on the audio of a New York low-power TV station.
Mega Media has had an eventful year that included an agreement with Arbitron for PPM ratings for Pulse/New York and announcements of plans to lease frequencies and expand the format to low-power TV stations in DC, Los Angeles, and Chicago. The expansion plans fell through, and, after the listener appeal in July, Mega got a brief reprieve from its creditors, but the company filed for Chapter 11 protection in August.
