Richmond Radio Icon Harvey Hudson Dies At 88

November 2, 2009: Harvey Hudson, host of Harvey Hudson's Passing Parade on Davidson Media's WLEE/Richmond, died Sunday in a Richmond hospital after suffering a stroke last week. He was 88.
Hudson, an exuberant personality known for imaginative on-air stunts and man-on-the-street interviews, began his long career in 1940, at age 18, as a part-time announcer on WRVA. January would have marked his 70th year on Richmond radio.
Hudson later worked at WRNL and WLEE -- where he was a morning personality and VP/GM -- as manager of then-WXEX-TV, and as VP of Nationwide Communications. He said in a September profile in Richmond Magazine, "People ask me about the business, about what I like and don't like. I had a love affair with this business. I was in love with the business, and I never lost it. It's changed like all love affairs change somewhat, but the only way to say it is a love affair."
Services will be held Wednesday at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Richmond. A video featuring Hudson talking to a Richmond Times-Dispatch reporter about some of his famous stunts can be seen here.
