Journal Grants 'Retention Awards' To Execs

MILWAUKEE -- December 29, 2008: Journal Communications said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission last week that it has granted two-year "retention awards" to certain senior officers in recognition of "the importance of retaining key talent to guide the company through current media industry and macro-economic challenges, as well as the longer-term evolution of the media industry."

Those receiving the awards, in restricted class B stock, were CEO Steven Smith, EVP Elizabeth Brenner, VP Kenneth Kozminski, and EVP/Finance & Strategy Andre Fernandez. A total of 180,000 shares were granted. The shares will vest and become non-forfeitable on December 23, 2010 if the recipient is still with the company.
